Occasionally we see some very special patients....
This puppy was first presented at the surgery when he was 2 weeks old. He was eating, drinking and going to the toilet normally, but his genital area was a little abnormal. A streak of red hairles skin extended from just below his anus to the begining of his penis, and there was no skin covering the penis itself. He had a fairly normal looking tip to his sheath, but it wasn't attached to the penis. He was urinating through a small opening just below his anus.

At this time he was very small, and not a candidate for surgery. When he was 8 weeks old, he was significantly bigger, and we were able to operate and remove the abnormal sheath tip and penis and close the skin to cover the defects. He is still able to urinate through the opening below his anus, similar to a female.

We are waiting to see if he continues to develop like an otherwise normal male, or whether he is genetically a mixture of male and female, which could prove interesting in the future....watch this space!
